Continuing on the subject of your perfect fitted jeans, in this post we will see which colors are the most suitable to achieve a flattering outcome, and which ones should conversely be avoided if you want to look slimmer and chic.
The most versatile color is undoubtedly the classic medium blue wash, which aside from being timeless, also has another advantage, which is bound to this neutral hue—not too light, not too dark, not too colorful—that can be flawlessly paired with darker and lighter garments without creating those stark contrasts between upper and lower body, which are to be avoided if you want to obtain a slimmer, taller figure.

Darker-colored jeans are helpful to smooth bulges while lengthening the silhouette. In order to achieve a stylish look, though, it’s better to opt for hues that have a slight variation in color (washed-black jeans or dark grey ones are nicer and more versatile than black-beyond-any-doubt ones).
.
When in doubt, stick to medium-wash jeans in classic shades (blue, black, and gray), which never go out of style and are very versatile also in medium-lighter shades (as in the picture below).
.
Don’t forget, though, that even if dark-washed jeans usually guarantee faultless results, you should avoid “cuffs” at the bottom (instead of a properly sewed hem). With most dark jeans, cuffs are totally unsuitable. This is due to the particular construction of the denim fabric (dark on one side, and clearer on the other). A light-colored cuff on dark jeans visually divides the figure, shortening your legs, and besides, it’s anything but chic. Therefore, even if cuffs can be nice on a long, thin leg, they don’t do any magic for those who have not-so-endless legs, making them appear fuller and shorter.
This does not happen with white jeans or with fabrics that have the same color on both sides as in the picture below.
.
In these cases, you can do the cuff, but pay attention that it’s sewn with care: the trouser should not be merely rolled over itself, but it has to be properly hemmed before being turned on itself. The casual wrap gives the impression that the trouser is too long for the leg that is wearing it, and besides, it shortens the whole figure, with a totally unfashionable effect.
As per light-colored jeans in pastel colors and light-blue ones, they can have the effect of widening your legs (apart from white jeans, as we will see later) and thus are more suitable for those who think they’re too skinny and would like to appear more full-figured.
.
This is particularly true when wearing knee-length, dark-colored outerwear, because, as your lower leg is the only part of your body that remains visible, wearing light-colored trousers enlarge your leg and cut your figure shorter.
As per the white jeans, interestingly enough, they have the effect of harmonizing the body despite their light color; this is due partly to the fact that optical white reflects the light, which makes any imperfection less noticeable.
If you like light-colored jeans, it’s safer to pick out white ones (as long as they have a nice cut and are made of a quality fabric).
.
Be careful with excessive acid washing: irregularly faded jeans can make your legs look shorter or crooked, giving the appearance of a larger leg. This is due to the fact that the eye perceives clothes (and their variations in color) more than your actual figure.
Fading around the buttocks can be useful if you want to look more full figured but is not very helpful if you want to look slimmer in the hips.
The same applies also to sidebands, which now are so fashionable. Some think they have a slimming effect, but this is just not the case. In fact, they make your legs look fuller, so the outcome is exactly the opposite.
Be wary of bold colors, as they can easily show their low quality (and moreover, if you wear bold-colored jeans with a medium-length coat, this could make your legs look shorter).
If you like to wear jeans in vivid or unusual colors, don’t forget that it’s essential to choose quality fabrics. When picking out medium-dark or white jeans, you can buy cheap garments because the difference with high-quality ones is minimal, but for brighter hues, the difference is far more visible, so it’s better to play it safe and stick to high-quality pieces. You’ll achieve a stylish, chic, and trendy look at no effort.
